Developmental Language Disorder Day 2022

21 Oct 22

Developmental Language Disorder Day (DLD)  is an international day of awareness for people living with Developmental Language Disorder. The aim of the day is to educate the public, support parents and children and to educate teachers and carers in recognising the signs and symptoms.

DLD affects approximately 7.6% of all children in primary school, however this is a diagnosis most have never heard of. DLD affects a child's ability to learn at school as learning is mainly taught through language. As a result, there is an increased risk of lower academic achievement. Furthermore, DLD can make people socially isolated as they have trouble communicating with peers, this increases the chance of health mental conditions.

Here at The Angmering School, we supported Developmental Language Disorder Day by wearing purple and donating £1. We hope to spread awareness to the cause and help to advocate for increased recognition and support for people with DLD.
