KS3 Boccia Tournament
At last, a chance to be back competing. A huge thanks to Mr Jenner and the Angmering sports leaders for hosting and running the event.
It was the first boccia match of the season and the first chance for some of the players to represent the school in a fixture. Angmering entered 3 teams, all playing their first team tournament so the aim was very much to get stuck in and have fun. The standard of all the teams and schools has definitely improved since the last event with some very close matches and tight scores including a one ball play off for Angmering vs Oscar Romero for a semifinal spot, team captain Sid nominated Oli for the shot, in true sportsmanlike behaviour Oli allowed his opponent to throw first, they slightly over threw leaving Oli a clear run to the jack and with calmness (not always seen in Oli) he gently guided the ball to within touching distance of the jack and securing a place in the semifinal.
On to the knockout/standing matches. All Angmering teams won their placing match and the semifinal was a close affair with Angmering sneaking it 3-0 to secure a place in the final. They faced Oak Grove, currently unbeaten in the whole event. It was again a very close match with the first end going 1-0 to Oak Grove, the second end was to open with Angmering pushing hard to catch up but leaving too much room for their opponents who closed the match out with a 4-0 final score.
Shot of the tournament goes to Samantha for a highly accurate long-distance shot, 2/3s of the way up the court through some blocking balls to secure a point and a win for her team
Ted said that “boccia was fun because I got to have a challenge and make new friends, plus I had fun doing it, I used the grid (a grid with pins for marking the balls) so I know what is where and people standing behind the jack so I can sort of get a ‘mind map”.
Well done to the whole squad: Sid (C) Holly and Oli - Ted (C) and Zoe - Samantha (C), Beth and Evie
