Parallel Youth Games
Wednesday 17th saw 14 students head to the K2 Crawley for the Parallel Youth Games (PYG) we fielded teams in swimming, boccia, NAK, golf and table cricket.
After a quick warm up we were off to our respective playing areas. The golfers heard out to the sunshine and completed a number of skill based activities to contribute to their overall score. As the day progressed the team honed their skills and refined their technique, not enough to medal but they had a great day and performed well. Well done to Oli, Charlie and Eli.
Emma, our only swimmer this year, did us proud in the pool and competed in the 25m and 50m freestyle where she completed a PB in both and secured a bronze medal in the 50m. Congrats to Emma.
The table cricket team co-captained by Sid and Samatha did astonishingly- they annihilated the competition.
The first match saw us bat first and with some excellent control we racked up an impressive 267-2 this was followed up by some consistent fielding holding the opposition to 228-6. Top run scorer in match one was Ted and top bowlers Ted and Samantha both taking two wickets each. Game two saw the same skill and control as the first with the team racking up 251-3 but had brilliant fielding holding Manor Green to 220 for 8. Top run scorer was Samantha and top bowler Sid taking 3 wickets. These solid victories secured the team the gold medal.
The NAK team took no prisoners in the pool stages and comfortably won all their games, setting up a Semi final with Oak Grove College, our local rivals. The first end was tied 1 each, Angmering nudged ahead with 1 one pint lead after the second end but finished with complete control and took in the win to set up a final against Hill Park. This was a tense affair, end one and two both went the way of Hill Park giving them a 2 point lead going into the third and final end. I think the tension got to the Hill Park players as their first two stones shot out of the back of the target leaving a calm Holly and Masha to set the stage, going into the last two stones Angmering had two scoring stones in the centre but facing an awkward blocker by Hill Park. Hill Park played their last stone which nudged onto the scoring area, still leaving us with two but reducing the angle for our last stone significantly. Under Captain Masha’s guidance Zoe released our final stone and with inch perfect accuracy nudged the Hill Park stone out and landing square on the target taking the total to three and the win 3-2 and the gold medal. Congratulations to the whole team. Samantha, Sid, Ted, Evie, Beth and Daisy.
The Boccia team faced a trickier pool progression winning two of three but strong enough to nick a semi final place which they controlled with real skill and thinking giving them control through all four of the ends to set up a final with Northease Manor who were the team they lost the pool match too. They started well and over the first to ends set up a 3-0 lead. The third end was a little rocky and the decision making gave too many opportunities for their opponents to score which they did, taking 3 points on the end, taking it to 3-3 going into the final end. A mid range jack suited us and within 3 balls we were in control of the end. Some aggressive play by Northease looked like they might tip the scale away from us but lack of accuracy meant that with all 6 balls played and us still holding shot, the team very sensibly decided not play their remaining three balls and took the win 4-3 and the gold medal. Well done to Anya, Lanah and Will.
A fantastic effort by the whole squad. Well done Team Angmering
