The Parallel Youth Games 2022
On Wednesday 11th May we finally got the Para squad back out and competing. We took part in boccia, tennis, golf, New Age Kurling (NAK) and the swimming gala. The weather wasn’t too kind to the golfers or the tennis athletes with blustery winds and even a spot of rain in the afternoon but they persevered nonetheless and demonstrated strong team work, especially considering it was the first trip full stop for the majority of the players and definitely the first golf and tennis comp. Special mention to Connor captaining his team for the first time and Ruby and Lanah for stepping up and filling in where injuries meant we were shy of numbers.
The boccia team of Will, Holly and Zoe showed excellent communication skills and highlighted true Angmering team spirit. Shot of the tournament to Will for an excellent ‘Jack ball first ball’ combination over 8ms. The team racked up 2 draws and one loss and narrowly missed the play offs.
The NAK team had a rocky start to the competition with a narrow defeat, but they rallied and pulled off a 2-0 victory followed by a draw that saw them make it through to the semi-finals which they smashed out of the park leading to a tense final. It was nail biting stuff and as Mr Liley said, it came down to the final shot, meaning shot of the tournament goes to Masha for a brilliant bullseye which our opponents nudged away but not enough- and we were the gold medal winners by a couple of cms. Well done to Samantha, Masha and Harry.
Our greatest success of the day happened in the pool. Emma, competing in her first swim gala for Angmering, secured a silver medal in 50m freestyle. Landen followed this up with a Gold medal in his first gala in the 25m freestyle. Pool victor for the day was Chloe with three golds, in the 25m free, 25m back and the 50m free. And to top these individual medals the team secured a bronze in the relay. Well done Swim Squad- Anya, Chloe, Landen and Emma.
It was a fantastic day out and the students were a credit to Angmering - bring on the next competition.
