Lorenzo Colacicco - awarded ‘blue belt’ in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu!

Year 11 Angmering student Lorenzo Colacicco has been awarded his ‘blue belt’ in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu!

Lorenzo had previously received his green belt, the highest-grade belt you can achieve as a junior, and won multiple titles as a junior including World, European and National titles over the years.

On turning 16, last September, Lorenzo was required to return to white belt status and had to start his journey through the adult grading system. Unlike many other martial arts, it takes many years to progress. For instance, to achieve a black belt takes on average 10 to 15 years of training a minimum of 3 times a week and realistically much more.

For an adult just starting out it would take 2 to 3 years to achieve a ‘blue belt’. So, for Lorenzo to be a ‘blue belt’ at 16 is a spectacular achievement.

The photographs below show Lorenzo being presented with ‘blue belt’ by his coach Sonny Weston of Horsham Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Lorenzo alongside his Coach Sonny Weston, black belt Keith McKenzie of Mckenzie BJJ and Ricardo Vieira 9 times World Champion founder and head of Checkmat and most importantly Lorenzo’s team mates.
