Trip to CERN, Geneva

Last week Science staff took a group of students in Years 10, 12 and 13 to CERN (The European Organization for Nuclear Research) in Geneva. It is the site of the largest particle physics laboratory in the world.
They had a busy couple of days in a very cold Geneva - lots of walking, over 20,000 steps a day! On Thursday they visited the Museum of Art & History followed by a guided tour of the United Nations buildings. Students got to go inside and sit in the conference rooms that are used by UN delegates! They then walked down and saw the famous Jet d'Eau. Friday was another busy day - History of Science Museum in the morning followed by a visit to CERN to view all the exhibits and watch a talk on how each layer of the hadron collider works. Saturday they took a water taxi over to the old town, visited Saint Pierre's cathedral and managed some shopping before returning home! Many thanks to Mr Street and Miss McLellan for making it happen!
