Georgia left Angmering 6th form in 2021 and went to university to study International Relations and Development before deciding she would like to teach Geography.

The traditional route into secondary teaching is to complete a Post-Graduate Certificate in Education, however Georgia was able to take advantage of an opportunity to return to The Angmering School as a teaching apprentice in the Geography department. This has enabled Georgia to get straight into paid work after graduating, while studying one day a week for her PGCE which is paid for by WSCC.

She has found this beneficial not just financially, but in terms of building relationships with staff and students, learning skills on the job and having opportunities to do far more than she would if she were on a placement from a university.

Georgia's advice to 6th formers considering university is to do what you enjoy first and foremost!

For apprenticeships, she suggested looking at the websites of companies you would like to work for to see what they have on offer, as well as registering with the National Apprenticeship website https://www.gov.uk/apply-apprenticeship

For those interested in the teaching profession, Mrs Knox mentioned a couple of new opportunities offered by Brighton University: a 4-year primary teaching apprenticeship and an apprenticeship in teaching secondary Maths.
