Motivational Monday - Koby and Holly
Today we welcomed Koby Rowbotham and Holly Street who left Angmering 6th form in Summer 2023 after completing their A-levels, and joined our staff team as Learning Support Assistants. They both work with students with additional needs and physical disabilities in the Lavinia Norfolk Centre (LNC). There is a large healthcare element to their roles and each spoke about how this experience is helping them with their next steps.
Koby studied Biology, Chemistry and Sport Science in 6th form and his final grades were disappointing, he did not meet the entry requirements for his chosen course at university. Since then he has been successful in securing a job with the NHS in Brighton and will start as a Trainee Associate Ambulance Practitioner next month, with part-time study at Crawley College on a Level 4 course, leading to a degree level apprenticeship to qualify as a Paramedic.
Holly studied Biology, Dance and Psychology A-levels and is currently studying a Level 5 Animal Management course at Brinsbury College 2 days a week, alongside working part-time in the LNC. She has the option to top this up to to a degree. Holly's long term aim is to become a dog handler with Sussex Police, and her work experience alongside a qualification in animal care will give her the competitive edge.
Both Koby and Holly feel that their experience working in the LNC has been invaluable. Koby has particularly benefitted from the hands-on healthcare experience he has gained, and Holly mentioned gaining a clearer understanding of diversity and inclusion which is highly relevant for police work. They have both been able to develop the people skills and resilience that will be needed in their chosen challenging and competitive fields. It was helpful for our students to hear that there are various routes into different careers and that there are options if all is not as you hope on results day.
