Rhianna Clavering

12 Mar 25

Thank you to Rhianna Clavering for her lively and engaging presentation as part of this week's Motivational Monday.

Rhianna was a student at Angmering Sixth form 2018-2020, she left during the Covid lockdown and has recently completed a degree apprenticeship in marketing. She is currently Marketing Lead at Pestfix.

Rhianna took A-levels in Biology, Media Studies and Physical Education, and had originally considered a career as an osteopath. She was drawn to the idea of an apprenticeship as at that time many degree courses were being taught online due to Covid restrictions, and she was keen to get stuck in with paid work. Having enjoyed Media Studies she decided to look into something more related to marketing.

Her parents run a music distribution business and after some discussion, they agreed to take Rhianna on as an apprentice, linking with the University of Chichester so that she could study a degree level qualification alongside her work. This has taken 4 years to achieve but Rhianna has no regrets as she has had a rich and varied experience in just 4 years, with no university fees to pay.

Rhianna was very proactive in seeking out off the job training opportunities alongside her paid work to boost her CV, including Goodwood events, HPower Events and Mattel (Barbie launch photoshoot).

She also completed a Girls in Marketing internship and continues to be a spokesperson for women's contributions in this field.

Rhianna's advice to 6th form students is:

  • Be curious - ask questions, research opportunities and look for new challenges that will stretch you and help you build confidence and skills
  • Passion - be enthusiastic about what you enjoy
  • Resilience - don't be scared of hearing 'No' - when one door closes, another opens. Try and learn from every experience, whether good or bad.
  • Network - take opportunities to connect with employers, for example at next month's Careers Fair in school! Create a linked in account. Contact companies you are interested in to ask about work experience.
  • Work experience - make the most of it and show real willing and professionalism, you never know, it may lead to a job in the future. Do as much work experience as you can, not just the week set in Year 12 but at other times as well. You can never do too much!
