Creative and Performing Arts Level 3 Diploma (RSL)

Course Overview

The Level 3 Diploma in Creative and Performing Arts provides learners with skills, knowledge and understanding for entry to employment in the creative and performing arts industries or progression to further study at a higher level.

The qualification aims to offer practical structured learning with the flexibility to specialise in different disciplines directly relevant to employment within the creative and performing arts industries, including Dance, Acting and Musical theatre.

This course is an equivalent of 1.5 A-Levels over two years and should be combined with two more subjects to make up a full-time study programme.

The learner can follow one of three pathways:

• Acting

• Dance

• Musical Theatre

Students will undertake one externally assessed core unit which is relevant to their chosen pathway.

All learners will also undertake an internally assessed core unit (Planning for a Career in the Creative and Performing Arts).

In addition to their core units there are a further 5 optional internally assessed units.

Students completing this qualification will have the skills to progress straight into the creative and performing arts industries or on to higher education courses such as a degree in a performing arts subject.

Occupational areas that this qualification can lead on to include acting, dancing and musical theatre performance. The CAPA Diploma is also useful in careers such as teaching, community arts, dance/drama/music therapy, stage management, event management, youth work, and many more.

You should be on track to achieve a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grades 4 - 9 including English Language or Literature, and either Dance, Drama or Music, depending on your preferred pathway. This could be a grade 4 or above at GCSE in a performing arts subject, or a Pass in Level 2 BTEC Music Practice or similar.
