GCSE retakes Maths and English
Course Overview
If students have not achieved at least a grade 4 in Maths and/or English Language GCSE, they have the opportunity to retake them in Sixth Form, alongside other courses where the 4+ grade is not an essential requirement for the course.
These retake classes are re-runs of the Edexcel GCSE courses, tailored to the needs of Sixth Form students at Foundation or Higher Tier. Each lesson topics from the syllabus will be revised via intensive whole class teaching on areas of common difficulty, small group work, and help with individual difficulties.
Students will be entered for an exam in November if they are likely to achieve a pass at that stage.
If they do not achieve a pass in November, they will be entered for the June papers.
GCSE Maths and English at Grade 4 or above are required for entry into many Further Education courses and all Higher Education courses, as well as for most jobs.
Students must have previously been awarded a GCSE Grade 3 in Maths and/or English.
